About Me

I'm John Huntington, author of Control Systems for Live Entertainment, the first book on show control and entertainment control systems. Through Zircon Designs, I do consulting and design work on entertainment control, show control, and audio systems, but this site contains many non-commercial resources related to entertainment, technology, and anything else I find interesting.

  • Show Control Manufacturers I Know

Note: I have personal experience with each of the following show control manufacturers. I have either worked with their products personally, seen them in action in recent years installed and running real projects. Of course, I may have had bad experience
    • Alcorn-McBride
Steve Alcorn's show control company. Alcorn McBride makes a variety of show control equipment, from show controllers to digital audio and video playback. Their gear is intended primarily for theme park, retail, and other permanent installations.
    • Anitech Systems
Anitech Systems is both a manufacturer of show control products, and a system integrator.
    • A/V Stumpfl
Interesting Austrian control and video systems company. Their systems can do everything from top-down animatronics control to video presentation.
    • Gilderfluke
Gilderfluke is best known for their "Animatronic" equipment.
    • KissBox
Makes the "KISS" boxes and the "Ground Control Consoles". I've used the Kiss Boxes and they have worked very well for me.
    • Medialon
Medialon, based in France and Miami, Florida, makes the widely used and very powerful Manager software.
    • Richmond Sound Design
One of the oldest show control companies making products for live show control. The company is basically responsible for originating the MIDI Show Control standard.
    • Stage Research
Stage Research makes SFX, a Windows-based program for theatrical sound playback and show control. The system can play Windows .WAV files in a cue-based manner, and can respond to or generate MIDI Time Code.
  • Show Control Manufacturers Submitted To Me

Note: The following links have been submitted to me, typically by a representative of the company being submitted. All I know is what I have read on their web site. I don't mean to imply here that any of the following have made false claims--I just don't
    • AAA\V Systems
"We specialise in Animation, Automation and Audio Visual."
    • Ace Visual & Sound systems
Ace makes the "Show Magic" system. (Note, I had this incorrectly linked to "Shownet" due to an editing error.
    • Alien Apparatus Company
This company makes a Mac-based system.
    • CueOne
"Solutions for automated audio and show control"
    • Interactive Digital Audio Line (ID-AL)
This company makes the EventPlayer, a hardware-based solution.
    • Inter2Face
Inter2face makes several show control products.
    • Mckenzie
McKenzie makes sound control software that also includes some show control functionality.
    • RSF
This company makes a show control product calle the "Pilote".
    • ShowCAD
ShowCAD makes a show control system, based on the PC. The system is primarily oriented toward lighting control, but can control just about anything.
